Martin Fromme was elected Mayor of Midway in 2018, narrowly defeating Douglas McMynn by 15 votes.
In an October 2022 rematch, McMynn handily regained his seat as mayor, earning 73% of the votes.
A total of 323 of Midway’s 651 residents voted in the 2022 municipal election, a marked increase over the previous election, when fewer than 300 took to the polling station.
McMynn owns a hardware store, grocery store, and insurance agency in town. His family has a long history in the village.
McMynn’s father Jim was the first mayor of Midway and remains the longest running mayor in Canadian history. He served from the Village’s incorporation in 1967 to his retirement in 2005. James G. McMynn park was named in his honour.
