HISTORY of THE ADVANCE

The Midway Advance forever holds a place in Boundary Country history: It was the gold-rush settlement’s original journal of record.

An issue was first published in April 1894, the year Boundary City was renamed Midway. The Advance ran from the village’s inaugural year through July 1903, when the weekly paper was rebranded as the Midway Dispatch under orders of new management.

Rising anew one century after the fall of the Dispatch, the Advance honours the rich heritage and modern majesty of Boundary Country through authentic journalism, accurate news, and handcrafted content that matters to British Columbians.
