West Boundary Community Forest Expands Mountain Trail Network in Midway

The hiking and biking trail network on Midway Mountain has been expanded upon thanks to local efforts from impassioned residents with support from West Boundary Community Forest.

Ahead of a future park being planned in the area, trail builders recently established multiple new routes connecting the town to the mountain, including Gold, Silver, and Black trails. They are currently usable though as yet unpolished.

“The new Gold trail is done for this year,” announced Ross Elliot, who helps maintain the local trails. “It is good for hiking but we did hit a couple of rock patches that will need some work next year for better mountain biking.”

Proposed new map.

Elliot noted that the new trails have been added to GPS, while new physical maps will be produced over the winter. He suggests mountain bikers avoid the new trails until they are fine-tuned in the spring, but encourages hikers to explore the new terrain with caution.

“I will start removing maps in November,” he warned, “so don’t get lost.”

The expansive network of scenic trails on Midway Mountain, recently upgraded to national mountain bike standards, have been serving locals and visitors for more than three decades now.
