RKDB on Boundary Hospital Rumour: ‘We Are Extremely Concerned’

The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary has responded to rumours about Boundary Regional Hospital .

RKDB is calling for urgent action from the Provincial government regarding the possible closure of the emergency room at the hospital, located in Grand Forks.

“The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary’s Boundary Services Committee met today to discuss the possible closure of the emergency room at the Boundary Hospital,” Grace McGregor, Chair of the Committee and Director for Electoral Area C/Christina Lake, said in a statement on November 16.

McGregor is “extremely concerned over the possibility of patients being forced to travel over the Paulson Pass to Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital in Trail or the 2.5 to Kelowna to receive urgent care.”

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital has also been struggling with limited resources, rendering it a shoddy alternative.

“We are putting immediate pressure on the Province of BC to address this threat to our facility and the impacts it could have on residents,” stated McGregor.

Boundary Hospital serves nearly 10,000 residents in its catchment area. Since March, the facility’s inpatient beds have been closed due to a lack of nursing staff.

Grand Forks mayor Everett Baker is working with the committee to advocate for the Boundary community’s healthcare needs.
