A recent act of vandalism performed against the Grand Forks City Hall is not being taken lightly.
A window near the east entrance of the historic building in downtown Grand Forks was damaged on a Sunday night in early September, according to a recount from Mayor Everett Baker.
Baker informed news media that he took the attack “personally.”
“This is the building that houses our municipal government,” he stated. “This is an attack on local democracy.”
Although no signs of entry were detected, the mayor has local Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigating the matter in more detail, Karen McKinley reported for the Black Press.
As a capstone to his point, Baker noted the Grand Forks City Hill was seriously threatened was almost exactly one decade ago.
In September 2013, an arsonist lit a fire inside the government building.
Reports indicate that the building took minimal damage and no one was harmed. The arsonist was ultimately identified, captured, and jailed.
