It’s getting brisk inside the Boundary Expo Recreation Centre.
That is because the hockey arena, situated within Midway, is preparing for the winter season ahead.
The NHL-sized ice surface, which hosts competitive and recreation hockey games as well as public skating throughout winter, is undergoing official preparations.
“Ice making process begins today,” the Village of Midway stated alongside a photograph of the ice rink.
The Boundary Expo Recreation Centre is home to the Boundary Predators Minor Hockey as well as Old Timer’s hockey and public Stick and Puck. The local high school, Boundary Central Secondary School, uses the arena for their Hockey Academy. There is also a Ladies hockey night open to all skill levels.
The 2023/2024 BERC season is scheduled to begin October 10, with a series of Men’s Hockey games slated for the month.
“Hockey teams from all over BC and Washington State have discovered the BERC as a convenient place to play a ‘neutral site game,'” the Village notes. For example, teams from the Lower Mainland or Okanagan can play teams from the Kootenays without having to travel extra distance.
The BERC features a concession stand, updated changing rooms, and fitness room.
