A fire razed multiple structures in Greenwood this month, including a church more than 100 years old.
By the time Greenwood fire responders arrived on scene, the church was already thoroughly burning, with flames spreading to an adjacent house and old elementary school, according to a report from Greenwood Fire Chief Roy Terashita.
Midway Fire assisted with command of the incident and also supplied two fire engines and personnel, noted Midway Fire Chief Mike Daloise.
A total of 29 responders were able to prevent the fire from spreading to two more exposed houses on the block. One of the two homes did lose a garage to the fire, while the other home sustained minor heat damage to the exterior, a report details.
The old church and school are “complete losses,” Terashita said, with heat damage to a total of three homes.
