The BC Wildfire Service is entering the 2026 fire season with its largest operational footprint to date.
The province has more than 600 year-round BCWS positions in place to maintain readiness ahead of the season, according to an official statement, and has received a record number of approximately 2,400 applications for seasonal firefighter postings.
“The threat of wildfire continues to grow and evolve, but so too does the BC Wildfire Service,” stated Ravi Parmar, Minister of Forests. “We’re making the investments needed to ensure BCWS is ready for whatever may come this wildfire season, through year-round positions, expanded technology and a new equipment depot in Prince George, all to keep people and communities safe throughout British Columbia.”
