Boundary Country Shifts into Winter as Road Conditions Fluctuate

As Boundary Country shifts into winter, the West Kootenay District is warning drivers to stay alert and prepared.

“Plenty of snow out there with limited visibility,” says the district’s transportation and infrastructure arm. “Remember to plan some extra time on your commute and give the car in front of you ample space.”

An initial dump range from 10-20cm hit the Boundary early this week, with a few more centimetres expected before at least one week of dry conditions.

Highways in the region are maintained by Yellowhead Road & Bridge, which was founded in 1988 and gained the Boundary region after being selected as Preferred Proponent in the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructures 2018 Highway Maintenance Contract re-tendering process.

The Kootenay Boundary contract area contains more than 1,500kms of road the main throughout and between Castlegar, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Carmi,  Midway, Greenwood, Christina Lake, Rossland, Trail, Montrose, Fruitvale, Genelle, Brilliant, Warfield, and Birchbank.

Within Boundary Country, YRB has maintenance establishments in Grand Forks, Birchbank, Midway, and Beaverdell.
