Midway Lauded as ‘Great and Affordable’ Retirement Destination in BC

As the cost of living climbs ever higher in British Columbia, many retirees are factoring in affordability when deciding where to spend their golden years.

This month the Vancouver Sun highlighted five “great and affordable places to retire in BC.” The number one slot was filled by Midway.

Here’s how the Sun describes the Boundary village.

Midway is a five-to-six-hour drive east of Vancouver on Highway 3 and is a flat community of around 650 people with a hot summer and moderately cold winter. The Kettle River runs alongside the southern edge of town. There is a three-bedroom house on the market for $300,000 and though small, the community has a large, well-stocked grocery, an RCMP detachment, two medical clinics and restaurants. The nearest hospital is Boundary District in Grand Forks forty minutes away. Midway has a skating arena, large open grass fields, mining history and a seniors’ centre. It is also a one-hour drive west to Osoyoos and some great wine country.

Other cities mentioned on the list were Nelson, Kaslo, Summerland, and Qualicum Beach.
