Midway Secures Capital for ‘Park Enhancement Project’ in Village

The Village of Midway will see upgrades to its parks infrastructure this year.

This month the Village announced that it successfully secured capital to move forward with its Park Enhancement Project.

The project involves building a splash pad and outdoor washrooms at James McMynn Village Park, according to municipal documents.

“The new visitor attraction and service to the public will increase tourism in the Boundary Area,” the Village of Midway stated.

The Province of British Columbia is providing most of the investment—more than $500,000—through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture via the Sport Destination Development Fund.

“Midway would like to thank the Province of British Columbia for their generous support to our project,” the Village said.

Government capital is being supplemented by fund-raising from the Kettle Spray Park Committee, which rallied almost $20,000 toward the cause.

Upon completion, the project will “support sustainable growth of the visitor economy, elevate visitor experience, and encourage visitors to plan their travel along the Highway 3 corridor,” according to a statement from Midway.

In addition to upgrades to McMynn Park, efforts from residents with support from West Boundary Community Forest have led to an enhanced trail network on Midway Mountain. A park, including a disc golf course, is planned for the area.
