Founders Day Weekend Festival Honours Birth of Canada’s Smallest City

As the smallest city in the nation, each soul in Greenwood contributes to its vibrant tapestry of community spirit, and there’s no better time to witness this phenomenon than during the annual Founders Day festivity.

Step into a slice of history, dating back to July 12, 1897, when Greenwood first sprang to life during the Copper and Silver Rush of Boundary Country. Each year the region gears up to commemorate the city’s birthday—this year its 126th—honouring a rich legacy steeped in mining, rail, and tourism.

The event unfolds over the weekend of July 15th and 16th in the verdant Lions Park, an oasis along Highway 3.

Founders Day entertainers will include The Hillside Outlaws, a country duo, The Graham Ord Blues Band, The Jon Bas Band, the Kelowna Yamabiko Taiko Band, and more.

The event is operated by a lean team that is always seeking the help of volunteers.
