If you shop at a market in Boundary Country or the Okanagan, you may notice a product from Jerseyland Organics.
The brand is not to be found in the Vancouver area but makes some of the province’s richest cheese, sour cream, and yogurt.
Based in Grand Forks, Jerseyland Organics is a family owned dairy operation with a pride for its reputation as “Certified Organic” since 1994.
“Our Jerseys are raised on the farm and come from strong family lines,” the company says of their cows. “They are not confined and have access to the outdoors year round, being pastured in the summer months.”
This lifestyle “results in more contented, healthier animals, generally living three to four times longer than their commercial counterparts,” according to Jerseyland.
As an artisan cheese producer, Jerseyland has developed distinct varieties of organic cheese, including jalapeño cheddar and peppercorn gouda as well as Italian varieties such as asiago and parmesan.
“Our cheese is made from raw milk and is naturally aged with no preservatives or colouring added,” the Boundary dairy states. “This is the reason for its unique taste and superior quality.”
Yogurt is made on the farm from whole Jersey milk, eliminating the need of thickeners or emulsifiers, according to Jerseyland. This non-homogenized product has a cream layer on the top that can be stirred in to achieve texture.
“Our yogurt is probiotic, loaded with beneficial bacteria,” the company says, offering various flavours including strawberry, blueberry, and fat free French vanilla.
Stores carrying Jerseyland Organics within Boundary Country include Buy Low Foods and Save-on-Foods in Grand Forks and of course the farm itself.
