Rain Sweeps Away Smoke in Boundary Country

Wildfire smoke reached Boundary Country last week.

The smoke impacted air quality in the region, a bulletin alert from the provincial government warned over the weekend.

“Outflow winds are bringing smoke to the south coast region,” a Smoky Skies Bulletin report read. “Smoke concentrations will be variable across the south interior depending on local winds.”

Air Quality for the region was rated as high as 10+, with a rating of 7 or higher being considered a health risk.

“Wildfire smoke is a natural part of our environment but it is important to be mindful that exposure to smoke may affect your health,” the bulletin noted.

Monday saw overnight rain sweep away much of the smoke and ash in the Boundary, bringing the area’s air quality level to a healthy rating of 2.

Rain is expected to continue through Tuesday, ending on Wednesday afternoon, according to a local weather forecast.
