Construction of McDonald’s in Grand Forks Approaches Completion

It was a big deal for the city of Grand Forks when Boundary Country’s first Tim Hortons opened in 2022; the bustling coffee shop on Highway 3 became an instant hotspot for coffees and hangouts.

Next is McDonald’s, home of the Big Mac and McMuffin.

City council approved a development permit last summer from McDonald’s Canada to build at the corner of Highway 3 and 27th Street.

Mayor Everett Baker commented on the news at the time, stating it is a “tremendous opportunity” to have a “brand name” choose the city of Grand Forks.

The nearest McDonald’s restaurants are in Osoyoos and Castlegar.

The Grand Forks location is approximately 5,000 square feet in size at a building cost of roughly $1.6 million, according to the council application.

Construction of McDonald’s in Grand Forks is slated for completion by the end of March, according to workers onsite as reported online.

It will compete with long-standing rivals A&W and Dairy Queen, as well as newcomer Tim Hortons, for drive-through business in the growing and bustling Boundary Country hotspot of Grand Forks.
