As of Monday, June 1, the general minimum wage in British Columbia will rise to $18.25 an hour.
The increase of 2.1% raises the general minimum wage from the previous rate of $17.85.
The Employment Standards Act was altered in 2024 to guarantee annual minimum wage increases based on the region’s average monthly inflation rate from the previous year.
The Province says it is “committed to a minimum wage structure that benefits the lowest-paid workers, while providing employers with certainty and predictability.”
Roughly 141,000 employees in B.C. earn minimum wage.
